My love for magnetic poetry has never waned. Perhaps it is because I have a pedestrian refrigerator (read apartment), and definitely because love language. Words are amazing. Not in the same way as dinosaurs, though.

A helpful thing to remember when working with magnetic poetry…it’s magnetic. Which is great for refrigerators, not so much on a non-metallic surface, meaning it sticks to itself. I used two of the boxed ‘themes’ for my design, the classic and the um, romantic. I emptied the little white tiles onto a black mouse pad, gave them a stir and let the magic happen. 

Right on top were “language”, “joy”, and “essential”. Exactly as I view words. Language is essential. Hard stop. But it also gives us joy in all the trillions and trillions and trillions of word combinations.

• Language is essential.
• Language and joy are fantastic companions.
• Recognizing the joy in language is essential.

The design needed to be centered around this theme. I really, honestly probably had 100+ iterations. Factors included:

• Dropping the phone onto the arrangement multiple times
• The cat jumping up on the desk to play
• Cat hair tucked in the crannies between letters
• Dust, lots of dust
• The tweezers (metal) picking up multiple pieces at one time, as well as words sticking together
• Unintended spaces between words – creating spots of black which were not aesthetically pleasing
• Inappropriate words
• Spilling coffee on the desk (more than once…)
• Crooked photo centering
• So many more…

I almost gave up more than once. Then one day, the magic happened. This is the result.

I guess you are wondering – Why?

intended to use the image as my landing page. Unfortunately, testers didn’t get my vision. It appeared to be a generic picture that was ripped off the internet and not the magical, original masterpiece I created. So. It was great fun to play with words and now I have a unique, personal picture in time.
